Amanda Seyfried Speaks Out How ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Marketing Affected the Film!
A Perfect Film, Misrepresented
Amanda Seyfried recently shared her thoughts on the 2009 horror-comedy Jennifer’s Body, calling it a “perfect” film and blaming the marketing team for its initial underperformance. Directed by Karyn Kusama and written by Diablo Cody, the film, which starred Seyfried alongside Megan Fox, failed to make a significant impact at the box office but has since become a cult classic. Seyfried believes the movie was misrepresented by the marketing, which failed to capture its unique tone.
“I can’t critique this movie. To me, it’s perfect,” Seyfried told GQ magazine. “It’s got guts. Diablo Cody was outspoken, brilliant, and hilarious. We were expressing a certain angst in a very specific, comedic way within a distinct genre.” Seyfried praised the film’s special effects and stunts but pointed out that the marketing team “cheapened it” by presenting the film as just a “gory romp.”
The Plot and Seyfried’s Role
Jennifer’s Body follows Fox’s character, Jennifer, a high school girl possessed by a demon who preys on male classmates. Seyfried plays Jennifer’s best friend, Anita “Needy” Lesnicki, who must stop her friend-turned-monster. Seyfried, who is known for her roles in Mean Girls and Les Misérables, expressed her fondness for her role in Jennifer’s Body and her appreciation for portraying a nerdy character for the first time, complete with glasses.
A Sequel and Future Projects
Seyfried also hinted at her interest in a Jennifer’s Body sequel, saying, “We had so much fun, and I’d love to celebrate it with a sequel.” Up next, Seyfried will star in Paul Feig’s psychological thriller The Housemaid, continuing her diverse career in both film and television.
